South Molton Neighbourhood Plan

Artboard3 Fb Icon SMNP-Logo

The emerging Local Plan acknowledges South Molton has a deficiency of equipped play areas and informal public open spaces. However, there is a lot of opportunity for the enhancement of these spaces for community benefit.

The community woodland provides a valuable recreation resource. The community woodland and recreational ground south of Pathfields Business Park are in public ownership and provide an important contribution to the green infrastructure network and accessible natural greenspace on the northern side of South Molton, between the town and Pathfields in terms of its biodiversity and recreational value. The recreational ground provides for local sports and play facilities. The Community Garden is a thriving and unique facility which the Town Council has supported loyally, is quite special involving all members of the community and has the necessary leadership and momentum to expand.

The green infrastructure network within and around the town will be enhanced through the provision of additional footpaths, cyclepaths and bridleways. Improved linkages between Pathfields Business Park and the town centre.

The emerging Local Plan identifies that a new sports hub will also be provided.

NEIGHBOURHOOD PLAN

The Neighbourhood Plan can assist and detail land designations specifically for green space and recreation. It can also influence developments that impact on outdoor recreation and/or biodiversity value.
